Marsha Katz is an Organizational Consultant at the Rural Institute.

Marsha has worked in disability rights for 20 years, and came to Montana in late 1998 after serving as Vice President of the Association for Community Advocacy in Michigan.  She is an experienced trainer in all aspects of Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).  Additional interests include alternatives to guardianship, disability law and policy, persons with cognitive disabilities in the criminal justice system, parents with disabilities, and fetal alcohol syndrome/fetal alcohol effects.

MarshaIn partnership with her husband, Bob Liston, The State Organizer for ADAPT, Marsha has also presented on disability culture, and choice and risk as a necessary part of life for persons with disabilities.  In Michigan, Marsha was a regular trainer for and/or consultant to the state vocational rehabilitation agency, Social Security Administration, Arc’s, Centers for Independent Living, consumer and professional groups, state and local developmental disabilities/mental health staff, and university classes in law, business, social policy, special education, and social work.  She has written an advocacy manual on SSI/SSDI, entitled Save Everything, Copy Everything, Don’t Look for Logic, published by Arc Michigan in May 2000.

Marsha is active nationally with both ADAPT and Not Dead Yet. She collects rocks, bubbles and bat paraphernalia, and she loves chocolate and the color purple.


Her life and work are guided by two quotes:
